Gracia’s Labyrinth

So sprinkled throughout Graçia (the district of Barcelona we live in) there are a number of large open squares hidden until you turn a corner and stumble into one. Most of the buildings in the city are several stories tall and the streets very narrow, so you cannot tell that there is a square around the next corner. But once you find them, they are a very interesting place to sit drink and coffee or beer, and people watch.

Outdoor CafeLast night, Jason and I did just that. We went orginally for a quick cortado (type of espresso drink), but decided to stay and have dinner at the cool Lebanese restaurant we were hanging outside of. Best falafel I have ever had! While enjoying several rounds of drinks….the strangest panhandling/entertainment crossed our path. Two guys dressed very much in gutter punk with mohawks and studs in every piece of clothing started wandering the square. The odd thing was one was playing a small recorder….a very nice tune, very Renaissance, the other was charming his way into change at every table. I had to laugh to see that sight of punk mixed with medieval court entertainer. We of course gave them some coins.
